Rants & Raves

Kampgrounds Of America (KOA) What is there about this organization that makes them think that what they have to offer is twice as good as anyone else? The can't even spell Campground correctly! For those of us that live or travel much in Oregon, we know that our state has great campgrounds that are reasonably priced (full hook-up $22). We wanted to go to Tumalo State Park. I had tried to make reservations before we left but Reserve America showed there was no availability. Confident in my knowledge that Reserve America doesn't get 100% of the spaces to reserve we showed up anyway...guess what, they were full, arrgghh! So here we are at the lovely, under construction KOA. Enjoying the blessings of sand and dust spread by the high desert winds. Their WIFI is down and their cable TV system is out and there is no grass yet. And for all of this luxury we got to pay $48 a night. Better yet, for a fee of $24 they will sell you a KOA Advantage Card that will discount you future stays, however they will still be outrageously more than other options, if they are available. Sorry...just had to vent!
